Binge Eating
Binge Eating
By Gabrielle Gingras
Binge eating isn't good for you! You should never over eat, stop when you are almost full!
Really, tell me something I don't know!

|
Something that might help! |
Why did I do it again?
No wonder I cannot achieve my optimum weight. Why don't I have any self-control?
This
internal dialogue even goes to the point of thinking I am a bad person! Yada-yada-yada! But the worst thing is that for the entire day I
will probably feel down in the dumps. No use exercising after everything I ate! No use eating even healthy foods. I might as well
continue eating unhealthy food since I have already failed!.
Oh, trust me, there is much more to say about binge
eating or about falling "off the wagon" but if you are a binge eater you know exactly what I am talking about and if you are not well you
get the picture. So let's stop focusing on the problem and let's get on with the solutions.
For only 12,95 I have a magic
pill... Not! Sorry to disappoint you but there is no magic pill for binge eating or emotional eating. So here are some real tried tested
and experienced solutions that really work. And the best part is that they are FREE.
- When you feel the urge to binge stop it before you act. Drink water; go for a walk or call a friend and soon it will disappear.
- Keep a picture of how you want to look and one of the ways you don't want to look in your kitchen of even in your pocket. This
should deter you almost instantly!
- Keep a positive affirmation written down on a piece of paper in your pocket or even jolted down I the palm of your hand. Carry it
around with you and read it as many times as you can. It can be something like this 'I have a strong will, I am a healthy and
well-balanced person. I am in control." Remember that binge eating is about loosing control so you must regain it.
- As Albert Einstein said " You can't solve a problem by using the same kind of thinking you used to create it" So use positive
affirmations or any tools to change your mind set, but change it if you want to solve it.
- Don't even eat that first cookie. You might say I'll just have one but you know that is not true if you are a binge eater. You are
setting yourself up for failure.
- Don't say that you will be good tomorrow. You must be good now because now is the most important moment.
- Now despite all of this you might still feel like you must do it! Especially at the beginning, when you are experimenting with
stopping the binge eating. So what to do next?
If you are at the grocery store or in your kitchen looking for that quick fix, compromise. Go for dried fruit if it is sweets that you are craving and go for avocados and nuts if it is something salty that you are craving. Of course the best option is to scoff down fresh fruit and a bag of baby greens. And now go ahead, stuff yourself!
But I have to warn you; you might feel pretty good afterwards! I must admit that dried figs and raw chocolate have saved me a couple of times! Although they are not the healthiest of options it is better than eating 4 donuts in a row and I find I can still continue on with my day without the Major Guilt Trip that forever consumes my thoughts. - Now for those times of desperations when you did eat the donuts, chocolates AND chips the best thing to do is to call the janitor
to clean up the mess! Eat a bag of greens! This bag of greens eases my body and my mind! Which is the best way to get back on track that
very day
- Those are my personal tricks and trust me they work! At the beginning it is difficult to break the pattern but the more you do it the
better you will become at it and the less binge eating will occur. It is important to know your trigger. What sets you off? .
I know when I feel stressed and overwhelmed is when I binge eat. It is my way of regaining control. Identifying you triggers and patterns is the best way to improve anything, not only binge eating. You must be aware of your patterns in order to change something!
The suggestions written above are my secret weapons and by all means use them, but you might have to find your own as well. We are all
different and I don't believe in "one size fits all!" It took me a while to figure out what worked for me.
Stay positive and active and remember that you are never alone!
Sincerely,
Gabrielle
